ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester Adams has proven that it is capable of making long runs so far this season. The Highlanders were back at it again Friday night against rival Rochester — using its old trademark of its stellar teams of the 1990s.

The press.

Adams used a 10-2 run in the second quarter and opened up the third quarter with another 10-0 spurt to down the host Falcons, 51-33, in an OAA White Division contest.

“I thought we did a nice job defensively against them,” said Scislowicz. “They had a hard time handling our defense.”

Anne Tucker scored 21 points for Rochester, her highest total since she played in Texas last season. The Falcons, who shot only 11-for-19 from the foul line, didn’t have another player score more than four points.

“She had a career day against us,” said Scislowicz. “They didn’t have (starting point guard) Zhana (Randolph) and I’m sure that hurt them. We did a nice job putting pressure on them in the second quarter and I think the 10-0 to start the third quarter really took the wind out of their sails.”

Freshman Amber Jamison continued to impress, scoring a team-high 13 points for the Highlanders. Taylor Houghtlin added 11 points, Jenny Rosonke scored eight and Carissa Roveda twined seven points for Adams, which made 10-for-19 from the charity stripe.

Adams (5-2, 4-0) remained in a first-place tie with Lake Orion atop the OAA White Division.

“I like to think we have a chance in our league,” said Scislowicz, whose team last won a league crown in 2007-08. “We still haven’t played everyone in the league, but we’re off to a good start.”

Rochester (2-5, 1-3) opened with an 11-8 edge after the first quarter. Adams used its first run to fuel a 17-8 second quarter run to build a 25-19 lead t the half.

The Highlanders used a 10-3 surge in the third quarter and a 16-11 edge in the final frame to slowly outdistance themselves from the Falcons.

The two will come back and face one another next Friday in the annual Crosstown Showdown at Oakland University.

“We’ haven’t been playing them twice a season all that much lately, because we haven’t been in the same league,” noted Scislowicz. “Back in the 90s, we were always in the same league. It’s nice to get to play them more than once. It’s good for the rivalry.”
