Davenport’s layup lifts Clarkston past Avondale
AUBURN HILLS — Both Clarkston and Auburn Hills Avondale reached the Class A Sweet 16 last March. So when the two faced off Thursday on the basketball court, only one point separated the two Oakland Count y standout teams.

Clarkston held a 12-11 edge in the fourth quarter and backup freshman center Erika Davenport hauled in a long pass and converted a lay-up with two seconds left to provide Clarkston with the game-winning points in a 42-40 OAA Red Division victory.
Playing even in each of the three quarters, both teams traded off 10 points in the first quarter, 13 points in the second quarter and six point each in the third quarter.
Christina Jokisch led a balanced effort for Clarkston (8-0, 3-0) with 10 points. Anna Manilla added eight points for the Wolves, who were only 120-of-22 from the foul line.

Hannah Little scored a game-high 11 points for Avondale (4-3, 2-1). Quennece Garrison chipped in with eight points and Sabrina Douglas followed with seven points for the Yellowjackets, who made only 18-of-29 free throws.
