Oakland softball earns spots on College Sports Madness Preseason All-League teams
ROCHESTER HILLS – Shelby Gott, Erika Polidori, Erin Galloway and Kelsey Krych were named to the College Sports Madness 2012 Summit League Preseason All-Conference Teams as announced on Wednesday. Gott and Polidori were selected to the first team while Galloway and Krych were selected to the second team.
Gott, a native of Bloomfield, Ind., earned the honor as an outfielder and was an All-Summit League first team selection last season. She hit .362 while scoring 12 runs in her first season as a member of the Golden Grizzlies. Polidori, a native of Brantford, Ontario, Canada, was selected as a utility player and was an All-Summit League second team selection last season after hitting .326 and driving in 21 runs with 16 extra-base hits in 2011.
Galloway, a native of Grove City, Ohio, was selected as an infielder after being an All-Summit League second team selection in 2011. She drove in 21 runs, scored 12 runs batted .301 during her sophomore campaign. Krych, a native of Goodrich, Mich., was selected as an outfielder and batted .306 with 25 runs scored last season. She also led The Summit League with 28 stolen bases for the second straight year and holds the school record with 72 career stolen bases.
North Dakota State led the league with six selections followed by UMKC with five selections. UMKC swept the preseason yearly awards as selected by College Madness, winning Field Player of the Year, Kaelene Curry, Pitcher of the Year, Deanna Friese, Freshman of the Year, Kaley Patterson, and Coach of the Year, Meredith Smith.
Oakland will begin the 2012 season on Feb. 19 as they take on Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the PC Softball Complex.
