TUESDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Oxford holds off Royal Oak; Farmington upsets Troy Athens

ROYAL OAK — Despite building a 34-17 halftime lead, Oxford had to hold off Royal Oak’s second-half comeback bid to post a 73-68 OAA Blue Division boys basketball victory over the host Ravens.

Jacques Toussaint scored 22, Mark Hazelwood added 18 points and Nate Brubaker scored 10 for Oxford, which shot just 23-for-38 for the foul line in the contest. Michael Kitchner followed with eight points and Zach Raisch chipped in seven points for the Wildcats (6-3, 1-0).

Royal Oak used a 28-12 explosion in the third quarter to close to within 46-45.

“We played a great defensive game in the first half, and then we allowed Royal Oak back into it in the third quarter,” said Oxford coach Paul Marfia. “I thought there were some questionable calls. But we fought through them and held on at the end.”
Dre Smith sank a trio of 3-pointers and was 13-for-15 from the foul line en route to a game-high 32 points for Royal Oak, which made 23-of-38 free throws. Martel Porter twined 19 points and Dominic Valente followed with seven points for the Ravens (5-4, 0-1).

FARMINGTON 83, TROY ATHENS 71: Behind a career-high 34 points from Chris Hare, Farmington was able to sun visiting Troy Athens Tuesday.

Hare connected on eight 3-points in the contest, which made up 24 of his 34 points for the Falcons (5-3, 1-0). Chris Morgan added 16 points and Nick Gojcaj followed with 14 points for the Falcons.

Marcarius Coakley scored 28 points to lead Athens (9-2, 0-1) to finish as one of three Red Hawks in double figures. Caleb McIntosh added 17 points and Aaron Fox chipped in with 12 points for Athens.

AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 62, PLYMOUTH CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 60: Oakland Christian halted a two-game skid with this narrow MIAC Blue Division win.

Oakland Christian drained eight 3-pointers in the game, led by six from John Van Noord, who finished with 21 points. Drew Perrin added 13 points and Josh Peterson scored 10 for the Lancers, who were a pour 12-for-22 from the foul line.

Eric Jippling scored a game-high 32 points to lead Plymouth Christian. Mick Noel added 17 points, as the duo combined for 47 of the Eagles’ 60 points.

Plymouth Christian led 16-13 after the first quarter and settled for a 29-29 tie at the half. Oakland Christian surged ahead with a 16-14 edge in the third quarter before both teams traded of 17 points in the final stanza.
SOUTHFIELD CHRISTIAN 79, ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 72: Southfield Christian remained atop the heap of the MIAC Blue Division with this six-point win Tuesday over the host Crusaders.

Gavin Toma scored 24 points and Chris Dewberry followed with 21 points for the Eagles (7-0, 5-0).

Nathan Drews scored a game-high 25 points for Northwest (5-3, 2-2). Gursher Rathor had 19 points and Josh Morrison added 13 points for the Crusaders.

 

ROCHESTER ADAMS 77, BERKLEY 42: Adams rebounded from a 28-point loss to Rochester with this 25-point rout of Berkley Tuesday in OAA White Division play.
Akhemji Williams scored a season-high 24 points and James Berger drilled four 3-pointers and added 21 points for Adams. John Neidhart also reached double figures with 12 points for the Highlanders (5-4, 1-0).

 
Adams led just 15-13 after the first quarter but plowed ahead with a back-breaking 24-1 run in the second quarter for a 39-14 halftime lead. The Highlanders put the game away with a 40-28 second half.

Damon Eldridge scored nine for Berkley (2-6, 0-1).
