THURSDAY’S GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Avondale fights off Pontiac; Stoney Creek bounces Troy

PONTIAC — Behind a 37-32 second half, Auburn Hills Avondale was able to hold off Pontiac for a 63-55 OAA Red Division girls basketball victory Thursday

Senior forward Hannah Little powered her way for a game-high 22 points, making 11-for-14 free throws, to pace Avondale (7-3, 6-1). Carolyn Gracey added a career-high 16 points and Quennece Garrison twined nine points for the Yellowjackets.

Breonna House scored 17 and both Meshia Smith and Nia Barton added 11 points each for Pontiac (7-3, 2-3), which made just 12-fo-27 free throws.

Avondale led 13-11 after the first quarter, only to see the Phoenix hold a 15-13 edge in the second quarter to forge a 26-26 tie at the half.

Avondale opened up a six-point lead through three quarters thanks to a 18-12 run and closed with a 19-17 fourth quarter.

ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 51, TROY 36: Gabby Yurik got untracked with five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points Thursday to pace the Cougars to the OAA Red Division win.

Carly Harvey added eight points and both Lauren Voss and Natalie Voss scored six apiece for Stoney Creek (7-4, 2-4).

Sabria Cotton scored 12 and Karin Moss added seven points for Troy (7-5, 2-4).

Stoney Creek led 13-7 after the first quarter, only to see Troy go on a 17-5 run in the second frame for a 24-18 halftime lead.

Stoney Creek regained the lead with a 20-8 third quarter, which gave the Cougars a38-32 advantage heading into the fourth frame. toney Creek closed with a 13-4 spurt.
