Oakland’s Benson signs with Skyforce
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Former Oakland basketball standout Keith Benson was signed by the Sioux Falls Skyforce out of the National Basketball Association Development League. He is expected to be uniform for the team by Saturday night.
Benson, a native of Farmington Hills, Mich., who played for Oakland from 2007-2011, was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round (48th) of the 2011 NBA Draft to become the first-ever player drafted in school history. He was waived by the Hawks during training camp.
The all-time shot blocker (371) in Summit League history was named Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2010 and finished his career as the only league player to surpass 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds and 300 blocked shots.
The Skyforce are the official minor league affiliate for the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic.
