Hamilton, Oakland bombs Western Illinois
MACOMB, Ill. — There was an air raid Friday night and Reggie Hamilton was the lead culprit.
The Oakland senior guard drilled nine 3-pointers and scored 40 points in leading the Golden Grizzlies to a 74-70, double overtime, Summit League men’s basketball victory over hoist Western Lillinois..
Travis Bader scored 19 and Drew Valentine added 10 points foir the Golden Grizzlies (13-13, 7-7) won for the 11th consecutive time at Western Illinois. Redshirt freshman Corey Petros chipped in with five points and was the only other Oakland player to score.
Ceola Clark made five 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Leathernecks (13-9, 7-6). Obi Emegano added 18 points, Tomie Tyler chipped in with 11 points and Terell Parks followed with 10 points.
Clark sent the game to overtime by sinking a 3-pointer for a 50-50 tie with 38 seconds left.
Hamilton, who finished one point off his career high, forced a second overtime when his 3-pointer tied it at 60-60 with 40 seconds to go.
Bader and Hamilton hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Oakland a 66-62 edge in the second overtime, and the Grizzlies held on at the end.
