Notre Dame Prep’s McCormick nominated for McDonald’s All-American game

PONTIAC — Kellen McCormick, a 6-foot-8 senior forward on Pontiac Notre Dame Prep’s varsity boys basketball team and a resident of West Bloomfield, has been nominated as a 2012 McDonald’s Basketball All-American one of only six boys from Michigan and the only one from Oakland County.

 

McDonald’s® announced the list of players nominated for the 2012 McDonald’s All American Games on Jan. 12. Of the 600 nominees selected by high school coaches, athletics directors, principals and members of the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee, a total of six boys and six girls were chosen from the state of Michigan.

 

“The McDonald’s All American Games presents the finest opportunity to preview the country’s best up and coming basketball talent,” said Morgan Wootten, McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee Chairman. “This year’s nominees represent some of the top student-athletes in the country. We are privileged to acknowledge these individuals for their success on the basketball court, in the classroom, and in the community.”

McCormick, who will play college ball at Western Michigan University, is currently averaging 18 points and seven rebounds for the Irish this season.

 

The 24 boys and 24 girls chosen to participate in the 2012 Games will be revealed during the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Show, airing Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

 

The 35th annual Boys Game will tip-off on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET from Chicago’s United Center and will be broadcast on ESPN. Immediately preceding the Boys Game will be the 11th annual McDonald’s All American Girls Game, which tips-off at 5 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
