Lake Orion, Oxford roll to OAA-Red split

Behind a conference-best 1,139 in Game 1, Lake Orion’s boys bowling team upended neighboring rival Oxford Thursday at Collier Lanes by a 26-4 count..

Lake Orion built a 10-0 lead after winning both Baker games, then outscored Oxford 16-4 in match play to go into the conference finals at North Star Lanes in Sterling Heights on a high note.

Oxford’s boys bowled a respectable1,003 game, but the match was never in doubt. Lake Orion ended 6-2, while Oxford finished 4-4 in league duals.

 

“The boys bowled well but ran into a buss saw today,” said Oxford coach JR Lafnear. Lake Orion is a good team and should do well going forward.”

 

GIRLS BOWLING

 

Oxford upset league-leader Lake Orion in the final OAA Red Division girls bowling match, 17-13.

 

Oxford won the first Baker game, 182-145, only to see Lake Orion storm back to win Game 2 by a 203-179 edge.

 

The Wildcats held a 6-4 lead heading into match play.

 

Heather Lafnear (201), Broke Harris (158 and Caitlyn Wroblewski (176) all won their first-round matches to aid a 13-6 advantage.

Smelling upset, Colleen Walters (season-high 267) and Wroblewski (201) won their matches in the second round of match play. Lake Orion won the second round by only 10 total pins.

The win gave Oxford a 5-2-1 record.

“The team needed this victory today,” said Lafnear. “It will be a great boost for them going into the OAA tournament this weekend and into regionals.”
