TUESDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Clarkston rolls over Adams; Oxford toasts Lapeer East

CLARKSTON — Behind four players in double figures and 10 players in the scoring column, Clarkston had little trouble with Rochester Adams on Tuesday night.

The Class A state-ranked Wolves coasted to a 77-51 victory over the Highlanders in an OAA crossover boys basketball contest to move to 15-2 on the season.

Clarkston jetted out to a 23-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. An23-1 surge in the second quarter gave Clarkston a 46-20 lead at the half and put the game away.

Both teams scored 31 points after halftime, although Clarkston led by as many as 29 points at the end of the third quarter (67-38).

Nick Tatu and Mitch Baenziger each scored 16 points to pace Clarkston. Mat Dellinger, who returned form an injury that sidelined him for two weeks, scored 13, the same amount as Jordan Dasuqi. Dylan Hancook followed with seven points for the Wolves.

Adams (10-7) was paced by13 points from Akhemji Williams and 12 points, all on 3-pointers, from James Berger. John Neidhart and Ben Limb scored six apiece.

OXFORD 60, LAPEER EAST 50: Oxford tied the modern day school record with its 13th win of the season, topping Lapeer East in this non-conference game Tuesday.

Oxford has also recorded 13 wins in 1981, 1990 and 2000.

Mark Hazelwood scored a game-high 21 points to go along with four steals, four rebounds and four assists for god measure. Michael Kitchner added 13 points and four assists and Jacques Toussaint followed with 13 points and six assists for Oxford. Zack Raisch chipped in with four points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats.

Oxford (13-4) finished 18-of-25 free throws. A win Thursday at Bloomfield Hills Lahser will give the Wildcats their first league crown since 1981.

Ben Muir scored 20 with eight rebounds for Lapeer East (2-16).

Oxford led 19-10 after the first quarter and 28-26 at the half. The Wildcats outscored Lapeer East 32-24 in the second half to extend the lead to 10 points.

FENTON 75, AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 54: Fenton moved to 17-1 on the season with this 21-point non-league victory Tuesday over the Yellowjackets.

Jabbar Mims scored 13 and Zarrick Sturgis followed with seven points for Avondale (4-13). Avondale trailed 33-23 at the half, while Fenton outscored the Yellowjackets 42-32 in the second half.

TROY BETHANY CHRISTIAN 55, ADRIAN BEREAN BAPTIST 40: Daniel Sprankle scored 15, Mark Bishop added 12 points and Ryan Woodman scored 11 as the Bruins wrapped up the non-league portion of their regular season schedule with this 55-point home win over the Bobcats.

Ryan Helinski scored a game-high 17 points, and Jeff Jordan finished with 16 points for Berean Baptist.

Troy Bethany Christian will face Rochester Hills Christian in the Michigan Association of Christian Schools Division I state tournament Friday night at Clarkston Springfield Christian 7 p.m., while  Berean will play host Springfield Christian at 8:30 p.m. in a MACS Division II game.

With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 16-10 on the season. The Bobcats next game will be in the quarterfinals of the MACS Tournament on Friday against Springfield Christian.
