Brandon an all-time best third at D-2 competitive cheer state finals

GRAND RAPIDS — Gibraltar Carlson started the year No.1 in the state. That’s exactly where the Marauders finish up.

Gibraltar Carlson put the finishing touches on a dominant season, winning the MHSAA competitive cheer Division 2 state crown Saturday, collecting 807.3944 points.

Ortonville Brandon, the sole area team in the Division 2 finals, finished an all-time best third with 783.4576 points. Dearborn Divine Child was second at 8-4.4592.

Allen Park claimed fourth with 777.3220 points, followed by Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills in the fifth (754.1648), DeWitt (753.3884), Middleville Thornapple-Kellogg (748.9080) and Byron Center (739.9488) in the eight-school field.

Gibraltar Carslon had the highest score in each round, collecting 234.1, 254.2944qnde 319.0 points. Divine Child posted 233.1, 252.3592 and 319.0 points, while Brandon, which previously had placed fifth the past three years, scored 227.9, 242.3576 and 313.2 points, with the latter two rounds were third-best while the first round effort was fourth.
