Lakers sail into regional finals with rout of Roeper

WATERFORD — Several of the top Class D girls basketball programs fell to the way side during district week. Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes has made sure that it has not become one of those victims.
The Lakers, the two-time defending state champions, rolled over visiting Birmingham Roper Tuesday in convincing fashion, topping the Roughriders, 53-18, in a regional semifinal on the Lakers’ home floor.
Lakes (20-4) advance to the regional finals for the fourth straight year and will play Thursday night at home against xxx at 7 p.m. against Westland Lutheran, which cruised with a 45-24 victory over Sterling Heights Parkway Christian in the other regional semifinal Tuesday.
Lakes jetted out to a commanding 19-0 lead and never looked back in disposing of the Roughriders. By halftime, the game was out of reach, as WOLL held a 30-5 advantage.
In the third quarter, Lakes used an 11-8 spurt for a 41-13 advantage, then closed the game out with another 11-5 run while using reserves.
Lexie Robak and Carlee Cottrell both scored 13 points to lead the Lakers. Tori Duffey added 10 points and Ava Doetsch scored nine for Our Lady of the Lakes.
Julie Pudar and Sophia Savas were held to five points apiece for Roeper. (10-12).
