Dragons mount big comeback to advance to Sweet 16

LAKE ORION — Behind an improbable comeback, Lake Orion kept its dream season Monday night  and at Bloomfield Hills Lahser’s expense.

The host Dragons bounded back from an 18-0 deficit after the first quarter to stun Bloomfield Hills Lahser, 52-50, in a Class A boys basketball regional semifinal at Lake Orion.

Lake Orion will place Waterford Mott for the regional title Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lake Orion.

Lahser led 29-17 at the half, as the Dragons went on a 17-11 run in the frame.

The Dragons continued to knew away at Lahser’s lead in the third quarter and used a 22-12 run in the frame to close to within 41-39 entering the fourth quarter.

After a back-and-forth final quarter, junior Chaz Miler hit a three-pointer with 30 seconds left to give the Dragons (15-9) the go-ahead points.

Sophomore John McCarty scored 20 points, Miller added 12 points and senior center Brad Watterworth added eight points and eight blocked shots to lead Lake Orion.

Sophomore Yante Maten had 14 for Lahser (18-5), which was making its first regional appearance in two decades.
