COLLEGE GOLF: Golden Grizzlies 14th at Jackrabbit Invitational
PRIMM, Nev. — Cameron Nelson shot a final round 74 (+2) and finished tied for 40th with a final score of 225 (+9) as the Oakland men’s golf team completed action at the Jackrabbit Invitational at Primm Valley Desert Course (Par 72, 7,090 yards) on Tuesday. The Golden Grizzlies finished in 14th place with a final round score of 298 (+10) and a total score of 909 (+45).
“Two positives for this week for the men was Cam Nelson and Nick Cunningham,” said head coach Russ Cunningham. “Cam had his best tournament as an Oakland golfer and Nick coming back from a poor first-round to have a low round of the tournament for us.”
Idaho won the team title with final score of 849 (-15), four shots ahead of UMKC 853 (-11). Medalist honors went to Korbin Kuehn from UMKC who finished with a final score of 205 (-11).
Nick Cunningham shot a final round 70 (-2) for the low Oakland round of the tournament and Michael Coriasso finished tied for 63rd with a final score of 231 (+15).
Oakland will be on the golf course next weekend as they compete at the Carter Plantation Invitational at Springfield, La. at the Carter Plantation Golf Course March 19-20 hosted by the Southeastern Louisiana.
GERBER FIRES 81
PRIMM, Nev. — Alanna Gerber shot a final round 81 (+9) and finished tied for seventh with a final score of 231 (+15) as the Oakland women’s golf team completed action at the Jackrabbit Invitational at Primm Valley Lakes Course (Par 72, 6,181 yards) on Tuesday. The Golden Grizzlies finished eighth place with a final round score of 328 (+40) and a toal score of 965 (+101).
“This game requires four players to play well to score well and we only got that one round this week,” said head coach Russ Cunningham. “Alanna (Gerber) and Liz (Ecker) played solid but they need help if we want to be competitive as a team.”
Arkansas State won the team title with final score of 935 (+71), three shots ahead of Oral Roberts 938 (+74). Medalist honors went to Monica Jung from Southern Utah who finished with a final score of 216 (E).
Liz Ecker shot a final round 78 (+6) and finished tied for ninth with a final score of 234 (+18).
Oakland will be on the golf course next weekend as they compete at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational at Crystal River, Fla. at the Plantation Inn Golf Course March 23-25 hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
