PREP BASEBALL: Northwest downs Southfield Christian; Oakland Christian pounds Lutheran South
ROCHESTER HILLS — Behind another offensive onslaught, Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest continued its hot start with a 13-3, six-inning victory Tuesday over Southfield Christian in MIAC Blue Division play.
Justin Novack went 3-for-5 with three RBI to pace the Crusaders (-2). Chad Cook finished 2-for-3, scored twice and swiped four bases for Northwest, while Ian Wellhousen earned the pitching win, striking out five batters, walking five and giving up only one hit in five innings of work.
Southfield Christian led 3-0 going into the bottom of the third before Northwest scored five times to take the lead for good. The Crusaders completed the Mercy in the sixth with a five-run outburst.
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 16, NEWPORT LUTHERAN SOUTH 1 (4 innings): Oakland Christian scored seven in the first, four in the third and five in the fourth to torch Lutheran South in MIAC Red Division play.
Collin O’Connor pitched four innings, striking out seven, walking none and giving up just one hit on the mound. Rafael Eigenmann finished 2-for-3 and drove home three runs, while Luke Combs supplied two hits and plated four more runs while scoring twice himself.
