CAMPUS CLIPS: Oakland announces organizational changes to athletics staff
ROCHESTER HILLS — Adrian Kowal, Gordie Lindsay, Scott MacDonald and Elisabeth Putnam have all been elevated to the position of Assistant Athletics Director, announced Oakland Director of Athletics Tracy Huth on Wednesday. The changes became effective on April 1.
“It is with great pleasure that I announce organizational changes within the department,” said Huth. “I am confident that this structure will provide the best service and opportunities to all of our constituents. Most importantly, our ability to fulfill our Mission to guide, encourage and support our student-athletes will be enhanced. The restructure was vital to our operation, yet had its challenges as we needed to fulfill the plan within existing financial resources.”
This new structure for the athletics department includes the elimination of an Associate Athletics Director position, which was vacated in September 2010. The plan was implemented after months of long evaluation of the department’s structure by Senior Administration and the Senate Athletics Committee.
Kowal previously served as the Coordinator of Compliance since 2010 and has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance. He will continue to track Oakland University’s student-athletes’ eligibility as well as assisting with ensuring the department’s compliance with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), The Summit League and OU rules and regulations.
Putnam has been moved to the role of Assistant Athletics Director for Facilities and Operations. She will also serve as the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) on an interim basis. Putnam has six years of experience as the Facility Coordinator at Oakland.
MacDonald advanced to the position of Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. He will be in charge of all strategic communication for the athletics department. He previously served for five years as the Director of Athletics Communications.
Lindsay is the new Assistant Athletic Director for Development. He has been at Oakland for two years, previously serving as the Assistant to the Director of Athletics for Community Relations and Athletics Development.
