MIAC FOOTBALL: Lutheran Northwest bounces back to blank Parkway Christian; Liggett rolls Oakland Christian
ROCHESTER HILLS — Behind a sterling defensive effort, Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest bounced back from a non-league loss to throttle Sterling Heights Parkway Christian in MIAC football play Friday.
Northwest scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back in a 40-0 shutout of Parkway Christian, 40-0.
Nathan Drews and John Macks combined for five touchdowns for the Crusaders (3-2, 3-0), which remained tied atop the MIAC along with Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett.
Drews scored on runs of 3 and 12 yards and also hit Josh Morrison on a 40-yard pass play for another score for Northwest.
Macks scored the second and fourth touchdowns, both on 3-yard runs, and Ben Agosta added an 11-yard scamper for the sixth-touchdown for the Crusaders.
Drews finished with over 200 yards passing and rushing and also made five extra points for Northwest, which led 27-0 at the half and 40-0 entering the fourth quarter, where the Crusaders cleared their bench.
Northwest still has two league games left, including contests with Southfield Christian (Week 6) and Liggett (Week 8).
GROSSE POINTE WOODS UNIVERSITY-LIGGETT 45, AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 31: Nate Gaggin picked up four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns Friday as the host Knights fought off upstart Oakland Christian in this MIAC contest.
Gaggin had 13 carries for 162 yards and finished 6-for-24 passing for an additional 252 yards to leads University-Liggett (4-1, 3-0) to its fourth straight win.
Drew Jerome had five catches for 65 yards and two touchdown catches and Kevaughn returned an interception for a touchdown to aid the Knights’ effort.
Dan Baird and Caleb Stokes had 11 tackles each Antonio Malkoun chipped in seven tackles and a sack for Liggett.
