The Golden Grizzlies (9-6, 2-2 Summit) won with set scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-12 and 25-22.

“This was a big win for us on the road,” said head coach Rob Beam.  “South Dakota is a quality team and they have a unique home court advantage.  Our team responded after dropping the second set and played at a very high level to take control of the match.”

Taylor Humm recorded 11 kills and 15 digs, while Brittany Holbrook earned 11 kills and Allia Knight added eight kills. Alissa Valentine led the team with 24 assists and Ciara Schultz added 19 assists with six kills.

The opening set was controlled by OU early as they jumped out to a 10-5 lead.  The Coyotes would tie the set at 13-13, but the Oakland offense took over as the team combined for 18 kills as Bray led with six to win 25-23.  USD would win a competitive second set that saw 10 lead changes as they held OU to only nine kills and forced nine OU hitting errors to tie the match at 1-1.

Oakland dominated the third set as they only allowed eight kills and forced a South Dakota hitting percentage of -.032. The Golden Grizzlies led by as many as 13 points in the set to win 25-12. In the fourth set, Oakland fell behind early by as many as five points, but went on a seven-point run to take a 20-15 lead. Bray finished with seven kills and seven digs and Kirk added seven digs in the set as OU used the momentum to win the fourth set 25-22 and win the match.

Oakland will be back home for the next three matches beginning with defending Summit League champion North Dakota State on Friday and South Dakota State on Saturday inside the Athletics Center O’rena.
