FOOTBALL: Eriksen, Clarkston barrel over Oak Park for OAA title
OAK PARK — For the first time, Clarkston will enter the postseason as the No. 1 ranked team in the state.
The Wolves wrapped up their fourth unbeaten regular season in 13 years Friday, cruising past host Oak Park, 41-20, in the OAA Crossover championship game.
Clarkston, which has occupied the top spot in Division 1 for the past month, never trailed the Knights, the OAA White Division champs who lost their final two regular season games.
The state’s leading rusher, junior Ian Erikson, racked up a season-high 292 yards on 36 carries with four touchdowns to lead the Wolves (9-0). He scored on runs of 40, 55, 5 and 6 yards and now has over 1,700 yards rushing on the season.
Eriksen scored three touchdowns on the Wolves’ first three drives of the first quarter to take a commanding 21-0 lead. By halftime, Clarkston was in complete control at 30-6.
David Beedle led the Wolves with nine tackles. Reid Kaminsky added five tackles, two sacks and forced two fumbles, the first which recovered in the end zone for a score.
