| November 9, 2012 | Comments (0)

MEMPHIS — Over decades, Auburn Hills Oakland Christian had won multiple district and regional championships in girls volleyball and all of those came in Class D.

Last school year, the Lancers were moved up to Class C thanks to a slight enrollment spike and the Lancers ended up losing in the district finals to Madison Heights Bishop Foley.

This season, Oakland Christian has advanced a couple of steps further.

The Lancers won their first regional title as a Class C school and eighth overall Thursday with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 victory over Brown City at Memphis High School. Oakland Christian will play in the state quarterfinals next Tuesday against state powerhouse and top-ranked Monroe St. Mary’s Catholic Central at Eastern Michigan University.

Erin Washington had 31 assists to several Lances to lead Oakland Christian. Becky VanSloten had 18 kills, Marcella Compeau chipped in 16 kills for Oakland Christian (33-17-4).
