Lakes claims volleyball district; Oakland Christian sweeps Shrine

WATERFORD — Behind a dominating performance, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes captured its first volleyball district crown in a decade Thursday night, sweeping past first-year program Clarkston Everest Collegiate, 3-0.

The host Lakers posted scored of 25-9, 25-15, 25-20 to advance to next week’s regional round.

Abbigayle Kline served up nine aces to lead WOLL (19-8-6). Lindsay Ross added five kills and Denise Valent chipped in with 10 digs for the Lakers.

CLASS C

AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 25-25-26, ROYAL OAK SHRINE CATHOLIC 13-16-24: Oakland Christian moved into Friday’s Class C district championship with this sweep Thursday of district host Shrine. Darcy Johnston led the sweep with 23 kills, 19 digs and four blocks. Erin Washington added 36 assists for the Lancers (30-13-5). Oakland Christian will face Madison Heights Bishop Foley at 6 p.m. Friday for the district crown.

CLASS A

TROY 25-25-25, PONTIAC 18-11-8: Troy made quick work of visiting Pontiac Thursday in a Class A district semifinal and advance to the Friday night’s district title match at home against Waterford Kettering. Lindsay Moeller had 23 assists to lead Troy, while Nicole Hahn added 12 kills and Alexsys Pullen followed with 10 kills for the Colts.
