SOFTBALL: Notre Dame Prep hits quarterfinals roadblock against Ladywood
ANN ARBOR — Pontiac Notre Dame Prep recorded a school record 33 wins on the softball diamond this season. The Fighting Irish could not locate the win column on the big stage at the University of Michigan.
Livonia Ladywood ended Notre Dame Prep’s stellar campaign, ousting the Irish 7-1 in the Division 2 state quarterfinals.
Ladywood, which will play in the state semifinals Thursday at Michigan State University against Mt.Pleasant, scored a run on three hits in the fourth to grab a 1-0 lead and the Blazers never relinquished their advantage. Ladywood added six unearned runs in the fifth frame to go up 7-0and put the game out of reach.
Ladywood hurler Rozlyn Price kept the Irish batters off balance for most of the game as Notre Dame really only threatened twice in the contest. Price fired a two-hitter, striking out nine, walking two and hitting one Prep batter.
In the opening frame the Irish loaded the bases with only one out but failed to push a run across as Price induced a strikeout and a pop out to end the threat.
The Irish (33-8-1) would not threaten again until the fifth inning when Madison Fox got a two-out single and then catcher Hanna Bullard blasted a double into the left center gap to bring home Prep’s only run of the game.
