PONTIAC — Following just its second loss of the season Saturday to state-ranked Chelsea, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep rebounded from their tournament defeat to down Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard by scores of 25-20  25-20  25-17.

The win moved the Irish to 39-2-0 overall and 2-0 in the CHSL Central Division.

NDP coach Betty Wroubel said after the match, “I was pleased with how the team rebounded from Saturday’s loss to Chelsea.  With a couple of freshman starting this year we were unsure how they will react. They continue to impress our coaching staff with the maturity and poise in which they play.

“The seniors did a great job of taking charge of their team and executed our game plan very well,” Continued Wroubel. “Bella (Buchi) has just been flat out tenacious on defense making several spectacular plays.  Katherine Carlson was seeing double- and triple-blocks all evening and still found a way kill the ball 29 times.”

Leading the Irish were defensive specialist Bella Bucchi, who served 14 points (three aces) and had 18 digs, while Carlson who had a match-high 29 kills, served 10 points (three aces) and added 10 digs for NDP. Libero Emma Kowalkowski added 23 digs and five serving points, while senior setters Hanna Antosz (16 assists and three points) and Ashley Knutson (24 assists and 16 digs) shined for Notre Dame Prep.

The Irish will host league-leading Birmingham Marian on Thursday.
