FOOTBALL: Rochester Adams tuns defending D-1 state champion West Bloomfield; Rochester cruised past LCN

WEST BLOOMFIELD — Rochester Adams opened up the 2021 season Friday with a statement win, topping defending Division1 state champion West Bloomfield, 35-17, in an OAA crossover contest.

Adams, which returned eight starters on both sides of the football, had lost to West Bloomfield 37-0 last season.

Junior Parker Picot led the Highlanders dominating ground assault, racking up 210 yards on 27 carries and three rushing touchdowns. He scored on runs of 4 and 46 in the first half and added a 9-yard scamper for another score in the second half.

Parker also hit Brady Prieskorn with a 3-yard scoring toss in the first half and Christian Schomer added rushing touchdown in the second half.

Reqez Nance threw a pair of touchdown passes of 28 and 48 yards, both to Semaj Morgan. Justin Ward added a 24-yard field goal for West Bloomfield (0-1).

ROCHESTER 35, MACOMB L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 2: After giving up a first-quarter safety, it was all Rochester Thursday night in the season opener. The Falcons responded with 35 unanswered points to soar past the Crusaders.

Jeff Hawkins scored on runs of 10 and three yards in the second quarter to put Rochester (1-0) on top 14-2 at the half.

Alex Bueno hit Preston Schroyer with a 5-yard touchdown pass,

Bueno added a 4-yard touchdown on the ground and Grant Calgano capped the scoring with a 35-yard run for Rochester.

ORTONVILLE BRANDON 65, BAY CITY CENTRAL 30: Behind 579 total yards of offense, Ortonville Brandon displayed some firepower Friday in opening up the 2021 season with a 65-30 non-league victory over Bay City Central.

The Blackhawks collected 308 yards on the ground and 271 in the air, all while racking up 42 points in the first half alone. Gino Tribuzio, Wyatt Morgan, Brennan Johnson, Gavin Leigh and Joe Ferdon shined on the offensive line during the 65-point explosion.

Micah Miller finished 11-for-16 passing for 224 yards and two touchdown passes. Dylan Dickens had 165 yards on five catches and two receiving touchdowns.

Gavin Greil racked up 177 rushing yards on 15 carries and scored four touchdowns. Drew Hickmott added nine carries for 49 yards and two more scores, and Holden Alderman had a rushing touchdown on five carries for 24 yards.

Ben Querio finished a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points, and Mike Nolan chipped in with 74 all-purpose yards for the Blackhawks.

Brandon (1-0) led 21-8 after the first quarter and 42-14 at the half. the Blackhawks continued to sure by outscoring Central 30-16 in the second hal.

Hickmont led the Brandon defense with seven tackles and one recovered on-side kick. Isaiah had two tackles and recovered a fumble, Mike Nolan added a sack and Chris Stewart recorded six tackles for the Blackhawks.
