Notre Dame Prep earns three more wins at second annual October Quad

PONTIAC — Behind some more dominant play, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep came away with three more wins at its second annual October Quad Tournament Saturday.

The Fighting Irish posted sweeps of Goodrich, Utica Eisenhower and Bronson.

The day started with a 25-9, 25-14, 25-8 win over Goodrich.  The Martians took an early 3-1 lead but then it was all Irish as they tied it up and took the lead, never to trail again. Josie Bloom led the charge with four aces, 12 points, 16 receptions and 13 digs. Aly Borellis was right behind her with 3 aces, 10 points, six kills, and 26 assists, while Bianca Giglio led all attackers with 10 kills.

Next up were the Eagles from Utica Eisenhower.  The Irish posted another sweep in its second game, posting a 25-3, 25-12, 25-9 win over Eisenhower. Leah Greif led the Irish from the service line with one ace and 12 service points while dishing out 15 assists. Aly Berent not far behind with 3 aces and 10 points while Bloom frustrated the Eagles attackers with 18 digs.

Last up for Notre Dame was the No. 5-ranked team in Division 3 in Bronson. The Irish took command of the match on their way to a  25-13, 25-16, 25-19 win. Once again, the Irish defense was solid holding the Vikings to a .277 hitting average. Coming into the quad Bronson led the state and nation (MaxPreps) in hitting percentage of over 500.

Borellis once again was solid for the home team adding 4 aces, 14 points, 12 kills, 19 assists, two blocks and nine digs to her impressive showing on the day. Elyssa Wallace served up a pair of aces to go with 13 points, six receptions and four digs while Sophia Sudzina and Giglio each chipped up nine kills for the cause.

On the day, the Irish picked up production on all ends of the court from numerous players on their roster.

Hanna Rutila had three points, one kill, eight receptions, eight digs, a block and an assist; Elyssa Wallace had three aces, 17 points, 11 receptions, 12 digs and one assist; Ally Berent served up three aces, 15 points, two kills, 21 receptions, 24 digs and an assist; Josie Bloom contributed five aces, 15 points, one kill, 20 receptions, 32 digs and an assist; Aly Borellis served up seven aces, 25 points, 25 kills, three receptions, 17 digs, three blocks and 54 assists; Leah Greif had one ace, 17 points, one kill, six digs and 40 assists; Margo Sudzina added five aces, 12 points, six digs and 23 assists; Kendal Smith served four aces, 15 points, seven kills, six receptions, seven digs and one assist; Bianca Giglio had one ace,one  point, 28 kills, four receptions, nine digs and two blocks; Sophia Sudzina also had  one ace, four points, 22 kills, five receptions, nine digs and two blocks; Sara Nouhan added two aces, four points, 14 kills, two digs and three blocks; Abby Nellis had three points, 10 kills, four digs, seven blocks and one assist; and Grace Wenaas belt five aces, 16 points, 17 kills, eight digs, eight blocks  and one assist for good measure for Notre Dame Prep.
