Hamilton’s scores 30 on Senior Night as OU edges Southern Utah in OT

ROCHESTER HILLS — Reggie Hamilton departed the Athletics Center O’rena in style.

The nation’s NCAA Division I leader in scoring, Hamilton scored 30 points, as the Golden Grizzlies captured their third straight win with a 76-68 overtime victory over Southern Utah on Senior Night.

The win moved Oakland (15-13, 9-7) into a third-place tie in the Summit League with North Dakota State with two road league games left. Oakland, which made the NCAA tournament the past two seasons, will play in the Bracket Busters game Saturday at Ilinois State.

Travis Bader came off the bench to ad 29 points, and combined for Hamilton for 59 total points on 48 shots from the floor and 17-for-18 from the charity stripe.

 

 

Hamilton made just 7-of-21 shots but was 13-for-13 at the line. Bader was 10-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the line.

 

The rest of the team combined to shoot 4-for-13 from the floor and 9-for-16 from the free throw line for 17 points. Oakland’s bench actually scored 41 points compared to 35 by OU’s starters.

 

Damon Heuir led Southern Utah (13-14, 8-9) with 18 points, including three free throws with three seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, to go along with six assists.

The Thunderbirds scored just three points in overtime, making 1-of-8 shots and committing two turnovers.

Jackson Stevenett (14 points), Wade Colie (12 points) and Ramell Taylor (11 points) also scored in double figures for Southern Utah.
