Former Oakland standout Keith Benson signs with Golden State Warriors
SAN FRANSISCO — The Golden State Warriors today signed Sioux Falls Skyforce center Keith Benson.
Benson, a 6-foot-11 center and 2011 Oakland University grad, joins more than 100 NBA players with NBA D-League experience currently on 2011-12 rosters.
Benson, who weighs 230 pounds, has appeared in 20 games with the Skyforce this season, averaging 15.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 30.6 minutes. He has scored in double figures in 18 games, including seven double-doubles.
Selected in the second round (48th overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, Benson returns to the NBA having spent the preseason with Atlanta this year.
During his four-year career at Oakland, Benson was named All-Summit League Player of the Year twice (2010, 2011), while also earning All-Summit League Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2011.
Benson is expected to join the Warriors today and be available tonight when the team hosts the Sacramento Kings.
