MIAC FOOTBALL: Northwest grinds up Mayville; Southfield Christian outlasts Oakland Christian
ROCHESTER HILLS — Behind three touchdowns from Josh Morrison and two from Nathan Drews, Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest inched closer to a postseason berth Friday with a 49-20 non-league triumph over visiting Mayville.
Morrison caught touchdown passes by Drew of 40 and 10 yards while he also returned another interception 40 yards for the score.
Ben Agosta returned a block punt 20 yards, Ian Wellhousen caught a 50-yard strike from Drews, Zack Woomer returned a fumble 1 yard for a score, Drews tallied on a 1-yard scamper and Drews also booted seven extra points and nailed a 40-yard field goal to cap the scoring for the Crusaders.
Josh Macks had 12 tackles for Lutheran Northwest (5-2), which plays Grosse Pointe Woods University-Liggett next weekend for the MIAC championship.
SOUTHFIELD CHRISTIAN 45, AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 35: Javarian Smith had 197 yards passing, Chris Polite had 159 receiving yards on eight catches and Joshua Rupright had 22 tackles for Oakland Christian (1-5, 0-4 MIAC).
Ryan Kostich added a 91-yard punt return and Stephen Nichols chipped in with 18 tackles for Oakland Christian.
