VOLLEYBALL: Romeo edges Notre Dame Prep for Oxford Invitational title
OXFORD — Pontiac Notre Dame Prep advanced all the way to the finals of the Oxford Invitational Saturday before running into a roadblock in Romeo.
The Bulldogs toppled the Fighting Irish in three sets (20-25, 29-27, 15-10) to claim the title.
Notre Dame Prep (41-7-4) finished 4-0-1 in pool play of the 12-school tournament, sweeping Lapeer East (25-18, 25-20), Birch Run (25-14, 25-13), Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest (25-10, 25-17) and Bloomfield Hills Andover (25-23, 26-24) as well as a split with Romeo (16-25, 26-24).
In bracket play, NDP downed host Oxford (25-21, 22-25, 15-8) to set up a second date with Romeo.
Katherine Carlson finished 105-for-113 attacking with 68 kills and five blocks to lead the Irish. Dani McCormick was 107-for-119 with 43 kills and six blocks, Hannah Strat had 98 digs and Ashley Knutson added 71 assists and five aces.
The Irish host the CHSL quarterfinals and semifinals this Thursday.
