BOYS BASKETBALL: Loyola runs by Everest Collegiate
CLARKSTON — Detroit Loyola pulled away with a 24-6 run in the fourth quarter Tuesday to post a 73-49 non-conference boys basketball victory in the season opener for both teams.
Loyola led 16-10 after the first quarter and 35-28 at the half.
Everest used a 15-14 edge in the third quarter to pull to within 49-43 entering the fourth period.
Toby Sharpe finished with a game-high 31 points to pace Loyola (1-0). Richard Gold added 15 points, Michael Owens scored 10 and Malik McDowell tossed in seven points.
Richie Cross drilled a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 13 points for Everest Collegiate (0-1). Ben Marcial also reached double figures with 11 points.
