BOYS BASKETBALL: Clarkston hands Southfield first OAA-Red loss
SOUTHFIELD — Clarkston handed Southfield its first OAA Red Division loss of the season, creating a tie atop the league standings.
The Wolves held off the host Bluejays 63-57, withstanding a late barrage of three pointers and a 27-16 Southfield run over the final eight minutes.
Clarkston opened up a 4-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and went on a 17-15 surge for a 31-17 lead at the half.
In the third frame, Clarkston’s 16-13 edge created a 47-30 advantage heading into the final frame.
Nick Owens led three Wolves (7-2, 3-1) in double figures, sinking six 3-pointers and scoring 22 points. Jordan Dasuqi added 21 points, making a trio of 3-pointers and 6-of-8 free throws and Andrew Myers scored 12 for Clarkston, which made nine triples in the contest.
It was Clarkston’s fourth straight win, all coming in January.
Jeff Grear scored 19 points to lead Southfield (10-2, 3-1). Quinton Arnold drilled five 3-pointers and added 17 points and Earl Swift chipped in with eight points for the Bluejays.
