SOFTBALL: Notre Dame Prep claims another softball district
PONTIAC — Winning softball championships is old hat for Pontiac Notre Dame Prep.
The Fighting Irish added another trophy to the case Saturday afternoon, topping Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood, 11-0, in the semifinals, and Birmingham Detroit Country Day, 4-3, in the finals.
Carly Joseph pitched a perfect game in Game 1 for NDP with six strikeouts and helped her own cause by driving in three runs with two hits for the Irish. Katie Swartz finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored with three RBI against Cranbrook.
In the finals, Liz Swartz finished 2-for-2 for NDP, while Joseph fired a complete game with three punchouts and no earned runs.
Prep scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to back their 11 hits but unfortunate four errors in the field. Country Day scored a run in the second and two in the fourth.
