FOOTBALL: Rochester keeps postseason hopes alive in win over Troy Athens; Southfield holds off Adams
TROY — Rochester kept its postseason hopes alive Friday with a 35-21 OAA Red Division victory over host Troy Athens.
Vince Piacentini carried the ball 27 times for 176 yards and scored on runs of 66, 8 and 3 yards for Rochester (4-3, 3-3).
Lucas Bezzera scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter for the Red Hawks, who took an early 7-0 lead. Rochester answered with three scores for a 20-7 advantage early in the third quarter.
Jacob White had a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown and Demetrius Magee caught a 18-yard pass from backup quarterback Mike Halsey for Rochester. Magee had four rushes for 54 yards.
Joe Coussens added 21-yard run and Devin Terry hauled in a 21-yard scoring pass from Alex Mussat for the Red Hawks (1-6, 1-5).
Coussens finished with 71 yards on five carries and Terry had five catches for 51 yards for Athens.
SOUTHFIELD 14, ROCHESTER ADAMS 7: Southfield scored a touchdown in each of the first two quarters and hung on for this OAA White Division victory over the visiting Highlanders.
Jaley Brady tossed a 41-yard touchdown dart to Raquan Carter for Southfield’s first score, while Kanye Harris added a 1-yardplunge in the second quarter for the Bluejays. Anthony Spencer hit both extra points for Southfield (6-1, 6-0).
Joey Prechtel scored on a 4-yard run and Spencer Ward added the extra point for Adams (4-3, 3-3).
