GIRLS BASKETBALL: Rochester Hills Christian wins prestigious Pensacola Invitational title
PENSECOLA, Fla. — Rochester Hills Christian had to go on a road trip to find some tough competition. The long haul proved to pay dividends for the Eagles.
Rochester Hills Christian, a non-MHSAA school, won the Penscola College Invitational Saturday, topping Dayton (Ohio) Temple Christian, 47-43, in the finals of the eight-school girls basketball invitational.
Makayla Smith had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles (11-0). Junior Ashley Parker added 14 points, a career-high and single-game school record 30 rebounds and four assists, and Jenna Porter had 12 points and five blocks in the championship game win.
Porter, who averaged 17 points a game in the tournament, earned Tournament MVP honors for her stellar play.
