THURSDAY’S BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Wolves, Cougars hound opponents for cage wins

FARMINGTON — Clarkston bounced back from a two-point loss to Flint Northern on Tuesday with a resounding 55-30 triumph over host Farmington Harrison in OAA Red Division boys basketball play Thursday.

Clarkston led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter and 27-14 at the half. The Wolves used a 15-0 third-quarter blitz to break the game open.

Nick Tatu led a balanced effort with 14 points for Clarkston (3-4, 2-1). Matt Rodgers added 11 points and Marcus Hardy added eight points for the Wolves.

Justin Pitts and Marco Redd both scored eight for Harrison (3-5, 0-3).

AUBURN HILLS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 56, BURTON ST. THOMAS MOORE ACADEMY 42: The cougars continued one of their best starts in school history, rolling past St. Thomas More Thursday. Trailing 8-2 after the first quarter, Auburn Hills (5-0) turned an 8-2 deficit after the first quarter into a 17-14 halftime lead thanks to a 15-6 run in the second quarter. The cougars pulled away with a 20-6 surge in the third frame to build a 37-20 advantage heading into the fourth period. Taylor Barton and Bobby Elliott both scored 20 points to lead the Cougars, while Austin Taylor added nine points for Auburn Hills. It was the first loss of the year for St. Thomas More (3-1).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 42, SOUTHFIELD CHRISTIAN 34: trailing 29-26 heading into the fourth quarter, the Crusaders pulled ahead with a 16-5 fourth-quarter run to defeat the Eagles in MIAC Blue Division play. Abbey Looker scored 11, Kallie Washburn added nine points and Jillian McLoughlin added eight points for the Crusaders (5-4, 3-2), who were tied at 16-16 at the half. Peyton Brown and Charity Godbold scored 10 for Southfield Christian (4-2, 1-1).

WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES 65, MADISON HEIGHTS BISHOP FOLEY 48: The Lakers rebounded from their first loss of the season with this CHSL win Thursday. Lauren Robak scored 22 and Lexie Robak added 17 points for WOLL (6-1). The Lakers led 35-33 at the half and52-37 through three quarters of play. Colleen Szakacs scored 22 and Nikki Taylor added 13 points for the Ventures (7-3), who led 18-14 after the first quarter.
