Milford uses second-period outburst to eliminate Oxford

WATERFORD — Milford used a three-goal outburst in the second period to nose past Oxford 3-2 in a Division 1 pre-regional at Lakeland Arena.

Oxford, competing in Division 1 for the first time, finished 13-9-2.

Keith Richards had a goal and assist and Sean Hamilton scored consecutive goals, including the eventual game-winner, for Milford in the second frame.

Richards, Garrett Cebalt and Dave Thorton also picked up assists on the day for the Mavericks, who will face Waterford Mott in the regional semifinals Wednesday at Lakeland.

Brandon Orr scored in the second period and Cody Ruck tallied in the third period for Oxford, which failed to net the equalizer. Orr and Chad Wicker drew assists for the Wildcats.

Eric DiMurcurio had the win between the pipes for Milford (10-14-1), making 19 saves, while Oscar Alexanderson made 23 stops in a losing effort for Oxford.
