THURSDAY’S BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Zott’s walk-off avenges Oxford; Stoney Creek hammers Troy
LAKE ORION — Oxford ended Lake Orion’s season last June with a walk-off home run in a Division 1 pre-district. On Thursday, the Dragons remembered.
Lake Orion picked up a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth-inning from senior Zach Zott to lift the Dragons to a 7-5 OAA Red Division victory over league newcomer Oxford.
Zott’s only hit was the round-tripper. Brett Wyss was 1-for-3 with an RBI triple.
Sophomore Cody Campbell was the winning pitcher, going 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts 1 one hit. Zott was the starting pitcher for the Dragons (5-1, 2-0), who have won five straight after opening with a 4-0 loss to Livonia Stevenson.
Keith Paslean finished 3-for-4 with two runs and Kyle Hartwick finished 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for Oxford. Paslean came in of relief of Clayton Spiker and suffered the loss, pitching two innings and three runs.
ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 16, TROY 0: Stoney Creek showcased its powerful lineup Thursday to burn host Troy in OAA Red Division play.
The Cougars had 15 hits and scored a season-high for runs, including 10 in the seventh inning to blow the game open.
Stoney Creek scored five in the third and added one in the fourth.
Zak Northrup pitched five innings, giving up one hit while fanning seven in the shutout win.
Anthony Gonzalez finished the night by going 4-for-5 with a double, grand slam and six RBI. Mike McKinley was 2-for-4with a double and a home run for Stoney Creek (6-2, 2-0).
