SOFTBALL: Kettering stuns Clarkston to advance to regional

CLARKSTON — For the second straight season, not even a lofty state-ranking could carry Clarkston’s softball team to a district championship.

This year Waterford Kettering sprung the upset in a Division 1 district final, topping the host Wolves, 6-2.

Last season Hartland upset Clarkston in the district finals.

Locke din a 1-1 deadlock, Kettering exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third and added one more in the sixth. Clarkston scored a run in the third and another in the sixth but could not find its rally caps.

Kettering out together nine hits in the finals and took advantage of two Clarkston errors. Emily Root supplied two hits and two RBI, while Sarah O’Connor added two more hits and scored twice for the Captains. Mackenzie Norton went the distance, scattering six hits while striking out three and walking three.

CLARKSTON 6, WATERFORD MOTT 3: Clarkston advanced in the district semifinals with this win over the Corsairs, where the Wolves collected 12 hits. Megan Hastings was 2-for-3 and scored twice, Sydney Hasselbach was 2-0for-3 with two doubles and two RBI and Rachel Alli was 2-for-3 including an RBI double for Clarkston, which scored two runs apiece in the second, third and fourth innings.

Hastings also picked up the win on the mound.

Janet Cisnick was 3-for-3 for Mott, which plated two in the fourth and another in the fifth.
