Notre Dame Prep turns tables, blanks Lakeview

ST. CLAIR SHORES — A team’s growth can often be measured by how it handles mistakes and if it can find ways to correct them.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep hopes that its season-opener is an indication of learning from the past.

A year ago, NDP opened up the season with a 27-0 loss to St. Clair Shores Lakeview. That was part of a five-game skid to start the campaign.

The Fighting Irish closed the 2010 campaign with four wins and carried that over into Thursday’s opener at Lakeview. NDP prep was able to turn the tables this time around and topple the Huskies, 14-0.

Notre Dame Prep scored one rushing touchdown, another off a punt return and held Lakeview to only four first downs in the contest.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Irish scored all 14 of the game’s points in the second frame.

Jacob Romeo had a 38-yard punt return 38 punt return and also scored on a 5-yard scamper late in the frame for NDP. Ruairi McGreevy nailed both extra points for the Irish (1-0).
