Sroka’s field goal lifts Avondale past Andover

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Kyle Sroka bailed Auburn Hills Avondale out of a jam Friday night.

The sophomore booted a 45-yard field goal as time expired in leading the unbeaten Yellowjackets to a come-from-behind, 23-20, OAA Blue Division victory over host Bloomfield Hills Andover.

Mitch Robinson scored on a five-yard run and Sroka nailed the extra point to tie the game at 20-20 in the fourth quarter for Avondale.

Jurrezz Smith (60-yard run) and Sean Wilson (15-yard run) gave the Barons (1-2, 1-2) a 20-13 lead early in the third quarter. Andover could not hold onto the momentum to grad the upset.

D’Aire Bullock scored on a 22-yard run and Robinson added an 8-yard scamper to give Avondale (3-0, 2-0) a 13-0 lead midway through the first quarter. The Yellowjackets, who scored a combined 121points in their first two victories of the season, were held off the scoreboard I the second and third quarters.

Winston Urwiller scored on a 15-yard sprint to cut into Avondale’s 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Robinson rushed 19 times for 137 yards and collected 196 passing yards on a 14-for-26 performance. Michael Johnson finished with 104 yards on seven carries for Avondale.
