Lake Orion, Notre Dame Prep crack top-10 in AP football polls
Both Lake Orion and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep cracked the top-10 this week and Clarkston held steady in the top five in the Associated Press Prep Football polls, released Tuesday morning.
The polls are conducted by vote by an 11-member panel of sportswriters around the state for each division.
Lake Orion, the defending state champions in Division 1, moved into the top 10 on the heels of a five-game win streak. Clarkston, despite having to forfeit is first two games of the season, holds in a third-place tie in D-1 with Grand Ledge.
Elsewhere, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep is now ranked ninth in the state in Division 4. The Fighting Irish are the sole unbeaten team in the area this season and have now won 10 straight games dating back to last season.
The only other local team to garner votes this season is Oxford. The 4-2 Wildcats just missed the top 10 in Division 2, collecting just two votes.
Novi Detroit Catholic Central is ranked No. 1 overall in Division 1, while defending D-2 state champ Farmington Harrison is still the top-ranked team in D-2. Mt. Pleasant (D-3), Marine City (D-4), Lansing Catholic Central (D-5), Ithaca (D-6), Royal Oak Shrine Catholic (D-7) and Muskegon Catholic Central (D-8) are the other top-ranked teams in the state.
