Lapeer East rolls over Avondale

LAPEER — Lapeer East built an 18-0 lead at the half Friday and rolled to a convincing 48-3 victory over Auburn Hills Avondale in a Division 3 first-round football district contest.

East added eight more points in the third quarter for a 26-0 advantage, then outscored the visiting Yellowjackets 22-3 in the fourth stanza to advance to the district finals.

At one point the Eagles led, 41-0.

Gary Bulzan led Lapeer East (8-2) by going 10-for-7 for 205 yards and three touchdowns passes. Bulzan added 68 yards on 12 carries and scored one rushing touchdown.

Monta Stangler had 6 carries for 208 yards and two touchdowns and Garrett Schaller added 106 yards on nine carries.

Brad LaBrie hauled in five catches for 11 yards and Stangler caught three passes for 46 yards for the Eagles.

Michael Johnson broke the shutout with a 67-yard touchdown run Mitchell Robinson hit Spencer Smith with a 48-yard TD pass late in the fourth quarter for Avondale (5-5).
