VOLEYBALL DISTRICTS: Clarkston opens up tourney play with sweep of Holly; Lakes rolls Jewish Academy
CLARKSTON — Clarkston enjoyed a long stay in the Class A girls volleyball tournament last season, advancing all of the way to the state quarterfinals.
On Monday, the Wolves took the first step of trying to repeat that feat with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Holly.
Clarkston dispatched the Bronchos 25-10, 25-9, 25-5, to advance to the district semifinals at home Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. versus Grand Blanc. The disrtict opening match lasted less than an hour.
Brianna Frakes had six kills, five aces and 20 assists to lead Clarkston (50-5-0). Rachel Dickerson added seven kills with three blocks for the Wolves.
CLASS D
WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES 25-25-25, WEST BLOOMFIELD JEWISH ACADEMY: 7-13-18: Host Lakes made quick work of the Jaguars Monday, posting this sweep in a Class D district semifinal.
Devon Valent had three kills, Kelly Meehan added 11 digs and three kills and Haley Howell dished up 14 assists with three blocks for Our Lady of the Lakes (18-8-6).
