CAMPUS CLIPS: Thomas aiding EMU’s cause

BOSTON — Sophomore guard Desyree Thomas from Waterford Mott had a good
start in contributing to Eastern Michigan women’s basketball team and their
first win of the season. She scored 10 points in helping to the 83-53 road win over
Northeastern University.
Thomas was an All-State and All-KLAA player in high school.
Thomas’ performance didn’t take away from the record scoring night of the 42-point performance from senior guard Tavelyn James, as James supplied a majority of EMU’s offense with 27 first-half points, draining 11-of-13 shots for an incredible 84.6 percent shooting percentage.
“Since Tavelyn got back from the Pan-Am Games everyone’s performance has picked up,” said coach Anna Marie Gilbert. Toledo, Central Michigan and EMU look to be the strong powers in the MAC-West for 2012 tourney.
The Lady Eagles will be coming home to the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti after a five game road swing on Friday, December 9, at 7:00 p.m. against UMKC.
