PREP HOCKEY: Rochester skates past Liggett; Avondale ices Notre Dame Prep
GROSSE POINTE WOODS — Evan Asuncion turned in his soccer cleats for his hockey skates and has still been able to find his scoring touch.
The Rochester High sophomore had a goal and an assist to lead Rochester United to a 3-2 victory Tuesday over Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett.
Dylan Oppenheiser and Brent Boudreau each also added goals for Rochester United, while Brody Blair recorded 37 saves in net for Rochester (1-2-0). Boudreau’s goal in the second period proved to be the game-winner.
Jacob Soyka had a goal and an assist and Vincent Scarfone also scored for Liggett (2-1-0). Joe Davenport made 28 saves for the Knights.
AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 7, PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 3: Connor Traskal and Stephen Carter put on an offensive showcase Tuesday night. The result was leading the Yellowjackets to a lopsided non-league win at the Troy Sports Arena.
Traskal and Carter picked up three goals apiece for Avondale (1-0-0). Craig Zimmerman also scored and Anthony Muncao stopped 20 of 23 shots for the win between the pipes.
Jacob Conroy made 44 saves for Notre Dame Prep. Geoffrey Zinn scored twice for and Jacob Jeszke had two assists.
