TUESDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Clarkston drubs Carman-Ainsworth; Shrine edges Everest
CLARKSTON — Over the years, Clarkston and Flint Carman-Ainsworth have played out many epic battles on the basketball court. Tuesday was not one of them.
Clarkston used a 25-7 run to open the game and rolled to a convincing 81-45 non-conference boys basketball victory.
The Wolves landed four players in double figures with two other score at least eight points. Nick Tatu launched seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 28 points to pace Clarkston (2-0). Jaordan Dasuqi added 13 points, Matt Dellinger scored 11 and Chance Huth twined 10 points for the Wolves.
Nick Owens added nine points and Mitch Baenziger scored eight for Clarkston, which led 46-13 at the half and 61-25 through three quarters of play.
Jeff Person scored 14 and Nick Watts added 11 points for Carman Ainsworth (0-2).
ROYAL OAK SHRINE CATHOLIC 55, CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 46: Shrine used a 23-14 fourth quarter to break open a tight game and post the CHSL crossover win.
Lorenzo Dewberry scored 24 to pace Shrine Catholic (2-1). Connor Francek added nine points and Jared Terill scored seven for the Knights, who led 19-16 at the half but were tied 32-32 through three quarters.
Richie Cross scored 17 points and Don Allen added 11 points for the Moutaineers. Bake Beauchamp scored nine for Everest (1-1).
LAKE ORION 59, SOUTHFIELD 56: Lake Orion outscored Southfield 19-12 over the final eight minutes to earn this OAA crossover triumph.
Southfield (1-2) led 29-25 at the half and 44-40 through three quarters but couldn’t hold on to the lead.
Chaz Miller scored 23 points to lead Lake Orion (2-2). Brad Watterworth added 10 points and both John McCarty and Devonte Kruse added eight points apiece for the Dragons, who recorded only four wins last season.
Brandon Bean and Earl Swift scored 13 apiece for Southfield and Jeff Grier added 12 points for the Bluejays.
PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 47, MACOMB L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 37:Notre Dame Prep used an 18-8 spurt in the fourth quarter to break free from a 29-29 tie after three quarters of play to earn this non-league win.
Kellen McCormick scored 20 and Troy Sassack added 11 points for Notre Dame Prep., which led 20-12 at the half.
Aaron Schienke scored 12 for L’Anse Creuse North, which finished a dismal 2-for-9 from the foul line.
LAKE ORION BAPTIST 52, WATERFORD LAKECREST BAPTIST 35: Lake Orion Baptist used a 16-4 run in the fourth quarter to break open a tight, 36-31 lead to earn this non-conference win Tuesday.
James Noruk scored 21 points with 20 rebounds for the Lions (3-2). Mark Dewar added 11 points and 12 rebounds, Jason Noruk had six points and 11 rebounds and Eli Cone nabbed 14 rebounds for Lake Orion Baptist, which had 64 boards in the game.
Brandon Staten 18 points and Brandon Fraser added nine points for the Lakecrest Baptist (3-3).
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 64, MACOMB LUTHERAN NORTH 45: Oakland Christian built a 35-23 lead by the half and cruised to this non-conference road win Tuesday.
The Lancers outscored the Mustangs 22-10 in the third quarter for a 57-33 advantage.
Josh Peterson led a balanced effort with 15 points for Oakland Christian (2-0). Drew Perrin and D.J. Stevens added 13 points each and Charles Hayden added 10 points for the Lancers.
Travis McConnell and Zachary Roose both had 10 points for the Mustangs, who made eight 3-pointers in the contest.
OXFORD 72, ALMONT 53: Oxford moved to 2-1 on the year with this 19-poiint road non-league road win.
The Wildcats led 42-26 at the half and 55-31 through three quarters of play.
Mike Kitchner scored a game-high 20 to pace Oxford, which sent 12 of 14 players into the scoring column. Mark Hazelwood added 13 points and Jacques Toussaint twined 10 points for the Wildcats.
Preston Farnum scored 17 and Colin Gelinski added 15 points for Almont (1-02)..
