TUESDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Troy keeps OAA-White command; Avondale edges Athens in OT

TROY — Troy maintained sole possession of first place in the OAA White Division boys basketball race Tuesday, topping Ferndale 72-65.

James Young scored a game-high 28 with 10 rebounds to lead Troy (13-3, 10-2), which has four league games left on the schedule. John Stibich canned five 3-pointers on the night and added 15 pints and Evan Mahone added three more long-distance bombs and scored 12 for the Colts, who made nine triples on the night.

Joe Baker led three Eagles (8-5, 5-5) in double figures with 21 points. Jordan Guinn added 15 points and Willie Harvey chipped in with 11 points for Ferndale.

Troy led 39-38 at the half and pulled ahead 54-50 entering the fourth before outscoring the Eagles 18-15 in the final stanza.

AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 61, TROY ATHENS 52 (OT): Avondale kept one game off the pace in the OAA White Division race behind Troy with this overtime triumph Tuesday. The Yellowjackets outscored Athens 13-4 in the extra session to prevail.

Athens led 23-18 at the half, only to see Avondale surge back with 12-10 third quarter and an 18-15 fourth quarter to forge a 48-48 tie at the end of regulation.

Ray Tillman scored a game-high 29 points, Tony Harris followed with 11 points and AJ Susick scored seven for Avondale (11-4, 9-3).

Jake Duzey scored 17 and both Alex Faubel and Caleb McIntosh scored 10 apiece for Athens (6-10, 3-8).

ROCHESTER ADAMS 55, BERKLEY 54: The Highlanders came back from an early 18-11 deficit to claim the regular season sweep of the Bears in OAA White Division play.

Adams led 28-26 at the half. Berkley used a 18-6 run in the third quarter to go up 44-34 entering the fourth quarter. The Highlanders closed on a 21-10 run to squeek out the one-point win.

Matt Nestor pumped in 20 points to lead Adams. Mario Roveda added nine points and Akhemji Williams scored eight for the Highlanders (9-8, 8-6).

Ryan Bush twined a game-high 23 points and Justin Peguese added 15 points for Berkley (9-6, 8-6).

BIRMINGHAM SEAHOLM 57, LAKE ORION 45: Shane Conway collected 19 points in leading Seaholm past Lake Orion Tuesday in OAA White Division play. Christian Pino added 12 points and Spencer Eick scored eight for the Maples (7-7, 4-7).
Chaz Miller scored 13, Justin Walukonis added 11 points and Rich Eaton chipped in with eight points for Lake Orion (3-11, 3-8), which fell behind 15-5 after the first quarter and 26-19 at the half and could not recover.

OAA RED DIVISION
CLARKSTON 59, FARMINGTON HILLS HARRISON 33: Clarkston remained in the OAA Red Division title chase with this lopsided league win Tuesday over the Hawks. Mitch Baenziger led a balanced effort with 14 points for the Wolves. Nick Tatu, Matt Rodgers and Jordan Dasuqi followed with eight points each for Clarkston (10-5, 5-2), which led 15-4 after the first quarter and 34-17 at the half. The lead ballooned to 50-20 entering the fourth quarter.

DeMarco Redd scored 11 and Ray Hall added 10 points for Harrison.

CHSL

ALLEN PARK CABRINI 57, CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 34: A 31-14 halftime deficit was too much to overcome, as the Mountaineers dropped this CHSL Tri-Intersectional contest Tuesday to Cabrini.

Greg Sombati scored 13 and Sean David added 12 points for Cabrini.

Donald Allen scored 13 and Richie Cross added seven points for Everest (10-6, 8-5).
