ROCHESTER HILLS Brittany Carnago was named The Summit League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The OU center posted 17 blocks and helped lead the Golden Grizzlies to wins over Clemson and UIC during the week.

“Brittany did a great job this week,” said Oakland head coach Beckie Francis. “She really stepped up her game defensively this week and filled a scoring role when we needed her to, without sacrificing her defensive intensity.”

Carnago nearly posted a triple-double with 14 points, 11 blocks and nine rebounds in Oakland’s 48-45 win over UIC on Sunday. Her 11 blocks equaled a career-high in blocks for the Oakland center and is the second-highest single-game total in Summit League history. Carnago also moved into fourth place all-time in The Summit League with 220 career blocks.

Against Clemson, Carnago had six blocks and seven rebounds to help Oakland defeat the Lady Tigers 63-51. With her effort against CU, she moved past former All-American Sarah Judd into second place all-time in career blocks at Oakland. It also marked the third win over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent for the Golden Grizzlies.

It is the second time that Carnago has been named Summit League Player of the Week. She averaged nine points, eight rebounds and 8.5 blocks and three rebounds per-game. In addition, Carnago knocked down 46.2 percent of her shots from the field, hit 75 percent of her free throws and played an  average of 28.5 minutes per-game.

Oakland returns to action on Dec. 20 with a game at No. 22 Purdue, with tipoff set for noon.
