FRIDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Troy lights up Royal Oak; Notre Dame Prep, Holly roll to wins
TROY — Troy scored at least 20 points in each quarter Friday and that was enough to light up Royal Oak.
The Colts built a 67-42 led on the Ravens through three quarters and cruised to a 8-70 OAA crossover triumph.
Troy raced out to a 20-13 lead after the first quarter and tacked on a 23-19 second quarter for a 43-32 lead at the half. The Colts outscored Royal Oak 45-38 in the second half.
James Young led Troy (3-1) with 27 points, followed by 18 points from Joe Leonard and 15 points from Maceo Baston. Zak Nor scored six and three other players chiped in with five points each for the Colts.
Dre Smith scored the nets with seven three-pointers and scored a game-high 31 points for Royal Oak, which closed with a 24-21 fourth quarter. Brandon Frederickson and Joel Gorbold added nine points apiece.
PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 44, ST. CLAIR SHORES LAKE SHORE 43: Notre Dame closed with an 11-4 run and rallied past Lake Shore in this non-conference game Friday.
Notre Dame Prep led 13-6 after the first quarter and 23-20 at the half. Lake Shore used a 19-10 spurt in the third frame to go up 39-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Ryan Pierce nailed six 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 18 points for Notre Dame Prep (2-0). Kellen McCormick added 13 points for the Irish, who scored 24 of their 4 points from outside the arc.
Therron McCain scored 18 and Kyle Medley added 10 for Lake Shore (0-2).
HOLLY 55, LINDEN 41: Behind a 22-8 second quarter, Holly rolled to this Flint Metro League win Friday over the Eagles.
The Bronchos led 36-16 at the half, only to see Linden go on a 15-5 run in the third quarter to pull to within 41-31.
Isaac Casillas scored 17 points on the strength of a trio of 3-pinters to pace Holly. Austin Hopkins dropped four 3-pointers and added 12 points and both Nic Stoll and Donovan Williams scored seven for the Bronchos.
Mike Williams scored 10 for Linden.
ORTONVILLE BRANDON 63, LAPEER EAST 43: Brandon outscored the Eagles in all four quarters Friday to cruise to this FML win.
Brandon led 34-24 at the half and 49-38 through three quarters of play. The Blackhawks closed with a 14-5 run to win by 20 points.
Joe Pillers scored 11 and Aaron Hirsch added 10 points for Lapeer East.
Brandon nailed eight 3-pointers in the game and landed four players in double figures in the win. Dylan Morris led a balanced attack with 15 points for the Blackhawks. Alex Bageris and Quinton Cook both added 12 points apiece and Cody Feltner scored 10 for Brandon (1-3, 1-2).
