GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Troy Bethany edges neighboring Troy Christian Leadership
TROY — Troy Bethany Christian outscored neighboring rival Troy Christian Leadership Academy in three of the four quarters Saturday and the Bruins chalked up a 40-31 non-conference girls basketball win over the visiting Defenders.
Sophomore Sarah Bishop scored 14 to pace Bethany Christian (8-4). Junior Lianna Sprankle added 11 points for the Bruins.
“We have been playing pretty decent this season. In our losses, they have all been close and we have three girls that have been scoring a lot for us,” noted Bethany Christian coach Tom Hagspihl. “We lost to Rochester Hills (Christian) twice this season, but they were by two points at our place and one point at their place. Our other two losses were both really close. We have been in al of our games, which is all a coach can ask of them. “I think we have three payers that have rotated leading us in scoring. Bishop and Sprankle have been there the past two years and (junior) Jody Walraven has done a nice job being our third scorer. She is also a good rebounder for us.”
Rachel West scored 12 for Christian Leadership.
